Presentations and Speaking at Events
Are you looking for a speaker for your event? If you’re running in event in Hampshire, I’m happy to do a presentation on something relating to running and/or creating websites.
Please contact me to find out if I’m available to speak at your event. All presentations are targeted to match the audience’s skill level and background.
Presentation Topics
I can speak on a number of topics, including the following. If there’s a topic you’d like me to present that’s not mentioned below, please just ask if I can help.
- How to run a website
- Presentation covering the basics of maintaining a website, tracking visitors to your website, getting your website into the search engines.
- How to promote your website
- Covers topics such as getting links to your website, the dos and don’ts of promoting a website and building a community around your website.
- Social networking basics
- Covers the basics on using the most significant types of social networking including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Digg, and even Discussion Forums.
- Brainstorming techniques
- Techniques and methods for coming up with fresh ideas for a business or website.
- Using WordPress to create websites
- Covers the exceptionally popular and free content management system WordPress. WordPress can be used for creating business websites, affiliate marketing websites, membership websites, blogs and so much more. The different tools and techniques of using WordPress are also covered.
Presentation Formats
I can design presentations to last between 15 minutes to 90 minutes (the latter format is usually best in 2x 45 minute slots).
Experience has shown me that that there are often lots of questions that individuals in the audience want to ask, therefore a reasonable amount of time should be allocated to answering questions.

The most recent presentations that I’ve done include:

Recent Feedback
Excellent presentation, very useful and informative; brilliant knowledgeable speaker. Best thing I’ve been to for years!
Just a quick note to say thanks for the presentation. The feedback from attendees was excellent! I found it very useful personally – particularly the idea of using successful commercial websites as examples of good practice and your explanation of analytical tools like Google Analytics.
The presentation was pitched at just the right level for the audience and, although you covered a lot in a fairly short time, the handout that you produced was a great way of helping attendees to retain the information.
It was clear that you put a lot of effort into the presentation and the handout so thanks for sharing your knowledge of running a website with us in this way!
Neil Ford, Secretary of Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) in Hants and Wight
“As Secretary & Events Manager for Dorset BCS, I decided we needed an event aimed at the public at large. Having heard Dan speak previously for Hampshire BCS I had no hesitation in approaching him to speak for Dorset. Dan gave a comprehensive overview of how to set-up and run a website.
The event was well attended (almost full) and I have received much positive feedback from attendees saying how much they enjoyed and understood Dan’s presentation. He was also very willing to answer questions and kept the overall tone and depth at a level suitable for the audience.
It was also obvious that he had a much more in-depth knowledge of his subject and I have been happy to recommend and suggest him for involvement with other professional bodies and organisations. Thoroughly recommended !
