FAQs
Here are some answers to questions that I’m frequently asked. Do you have a question that’s not answered here? Then please contact me and ask away!
Questions about Sessions
Do you do face-to-face sessions, or sessions by telephone?
I can do both, based on what you prefer. Given that I will look at your website with you, having internet access during your sessions would be a big advantage. I do not currently have facilities for clients to visit me, but I can visit you at a mutually agreed location, such as your home or office.
Where are you based?
I am based in Chandlers Ford in Hampshire, in the UK. I can arrange to meet you at a mutually convenient location in areas such as Eastleigh, Southampton, Winchester, Fair Oak, and surrounding areas.
How far are you prepared to travel to offer your consultancy?
I’m happy to meet you anywhere in Hampshire. If you live outside of Hampshire, please let me know to see if we can have a session via telephone or somewhere mutually convenient.
All prices listed on the website include my travel expenses up to 50 miles round-trip. If you wish me to meet you at a location further than that, I do ask that you cover my travel expenses.
Why should I pay for your website mentoring services? Can’t I just find out all the information for free on the web?
Information about designing and promoting a website is freely available on the web, but it takes considerable time to find it, understand it, test it, and implement it. I’ve been doing this stuff for over 4 years now, and I’m topping up my skills daily!
A great deal of the publicly available information on promoting websites is either unethical or outdated. Search engines are updating their policies and algorithms all the time, and techniques that worked 12 months ago are now ineffective (some can even get you removed from the search engines altogether!). That’s not forgetting that web technologies are also changing daily too!
What I do is help you to focus on the aspects of your website that will give you results. I’ll help you to use current techniques, not techniques that are months or years out of date.
General Website Questions
Must I spend money on creating a website?
In short, no, but it helps if you do spend some money.
Some people don’t have a great deal of money to spend on creating a website, if any, I understand that. However, unless you’re experienced, as well as technically and artistically gifted, you’re going to struggle to create a website without paying a penny.
Thankfully, I know a number of ways to spend very little money and get great results. As a rule, it makes sense to pay for things you can’t do yourself.
Surely it’s really easy to run a website?
Initially, it appears that’s the case. However, from my experience, a website needs frequent nurturing, just like a plant. However, websites are definitely more complicated than they were just 5 years ago.
Why shouldn’t I just hire a Web Designer or Search Engine Consultant directly?
If you know exactly what you’re after, then there’s no reason why you can’t hire a designer or search engine consultant directly. However, good web designers and search engine consultants are expensive, so you need to be very clear what you want from them to avoid wasting money on services you don’t need.
I’ve heard of blogs, do I need one of those?
That very much depends on what you’re trying to achieve. In most cases, it’s not necessary. There are thousands upon thousands of blogs that exist on the web, so standing out from the crowd is really difficult. Blogs take a lot of work to run and maintain, so you don’t want one unless it helps you achieve your goals.
